National Dogs in Politics Day (aka Checkers Day)

Today is celebrated in memory of a famous speech by then-vice presidential nominee Richard Nixon in which he mentioned receiving a black and white dog as a campaign gift, whom he named Checkers.  Take a moment to read about the various White House pets (and even pets who won local office) and appreciate how our furry friends help keep us sane in our politically-charged area!
