Sara Hogan - Practice Manager - Sara loves animals and couldn’t imagine a life without them! Growing up she relished in any opportunity to be around animals, including her dogs and horses. Sara volunteered in a therapeutic equestrian program teaching and aiding children with special needs about horses, as well as a translator and advocate for Leader Dogs for the Blind. She hails from the Midwest and after graduating from Oakland University with her bachelors in Biology she moved to Chicago where she worked as a veterinary nurse and stem cell laboratory director for several years. After relocating to the DC area in 2015 Sara couldn’t wait to jump back into the veterinary field. Sara is thrilled to be a part of the Clarendon Animal Care team! She lives in Arlington with her husband Patrick (who is just as big of an animal-lover as she is!) and their Pointer-Boxer mix, Peyton.
Passions/Interests: Animal rescue, volunteering, travel, cooking, and Dateline.
Charnita Fox - Receptionist - While born in Georgia, Charnita has been a DC resident since the age of 5. Following high school she had her mind set on becoming a registered nurse, but took a different path and became a Certified Veterinary Assistant and has been working in veterinary offices and animal welfare organizations (the Washington Humane Society and the Animal Welfare League of Arlington) ever since. She has known Drs Ungerer and Gloor for a few years and is happy to be working with them and the great team at Clarendon Animal Care. She has been the adopted mom of several wonderful animals over the years.
Notable attributes: Paw-sitive attitude!
Mike Fickling - Receptionist/Office Goof-Ball - Although Mike's roots are in Buffalo NY, he grew up all around the Northern VA area. Since having his first dog at age 9, he has always maintained a bond with animals; at times even with animals of the not furry variety: turtles, frogs, lizards, etc... After high school Mike worked as a veterinary receptionist at another Northern Virginia clinic where he met and befriended Dr. Gloor & Leslie Carroll, LVT. As a receptionist he learned the importance of client and patient satisfaction and formed bonds with clients and patients alike. He is currently pursuing the educational and training requirements to become an American Sign Language interpreter. Mike currently has no pets of his own but he fills that void with part-time dog walking and pet sitting. Now, after several years working outside the veterinary world, Mike has joined our team to once again to be of service to our furry little friends!
Talents: Try to not smile while talking to him - seriously, try it....not possible. Damn good at American Sign Language, Pass-able in French, Meh in Spanish, and excels in positive attitude.
Ashley Gomez - Receptionist - Ashley grew up in Colombia, South America and came to the Northern VA area in 2001. While in high school she worked first as a kennel assistant and then as a receptionist at a small animal practice where she met Dr. Ungerer & Dr. Gloor. After high school Ashley enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College, then transferred to George Mason University where she graduated with a bachelor's in psychology. She has two dogs that she wouldn't trade for the world. Ashley is very happy to be part of the CAC crew, and we are happy to have her!
Skills: fluent in Spanish, super nice!
Emily Benson - Administrative Associate - Emily joined the CAC family in May 2017 after graduating with honors from Marymount University, with a degree in public/corporate communication. Her family has two dogs, but her true love is the "family" cat (but really her cat) Snowbell. She and her fiance recently adopted two parakeets, found outside her apartment building. It's a weird story.
In the past, Emily has worked in retail and restaurants where she discovered a love of working with people and customer service, then refined those and other office skills with work in a university office and an internship with the communications department of a major think tank in DC. She also owns her own photography business and especially enjoys photographing weddings.
Passions/interests: cats, photography, chocolate, and spreadsheets
Mike ("MJ") Lopez-Guzman - Receptionist - MJ joined CAC in October 2016. He was born and raised in Northern VA. He grew up with dogs and has 2 very sweet pups: Anubis & Onyx. MJ is very into personal fitness and likes to help people meet their health goals. He has an exceptional phone voice and is very friendly. His favorite show is The Office.
Elizabeth Baker - Receptionist and Veterinary Assistant - Elizabeth joined CAC in August of 2017. She grew up locally in Northern Virginia and has loved animals since she was a child. She began working as a veterinary assistant upon graduating high school and can't imagine working in any other field. She enjoys working with animals of all different types and sizes, including exotics, wildlife, and large animals.
She hopes to further pursue schooling in some biological or animal-related field, having graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Mary Washington. Outside of her time at CAC, she loves to play soccer and remain active either running, hiking, or generally being outside.
Katherine Hellmann - Receptionist - Kat grew up in southern Virginia but moved to Arlington for college. She graduated from Marymount University in May 2017 with a Bachelors degree in Psychology with a concentration on childhood/adolescent development. Kat is currently working on her Masters of Social Work at George Mason University. While human babies are Kat's specialty, she joined Clarendon Animal Care to help 4 legged babies.
She currently lives with roommates, including a cat named Kimberly. One day Kat plans to own a farm - goats and pigs are her favorite!
Rika Boatwright - Receptionist - Joined CAC in December 2017 - More to come!
Tommy Lee Jones - (a.k.a. "Tommy") - House cat/Office Manager - Tommy was adopted by Clarendon Animal Care from the Arlington Shelter in 2015. He enjoys sleeping, sitting in the front window after-hours, and letting dogs (and everyone else, for that matter) know his general disapproval of them.
