Dr. Lockhart bounced between Ontario, Canada and Raleigh, North Carolina growing up. Despite her best efforts, her parents never gave in to her requests for a pet, and it is true what they say: absence really does make the heart grow fonder.

She started volunteering in shelters and working at her local veterinary clinic when she was in high school, came to cherish the human-animal bond, and knew right away that veterinary medicine was her jam. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Dr. Lockhart went on to attend veterinary school at North Carolina State University (Go Pack!).

She has practiced in Northern Virginia since 2013, embracing the variety that comes with general practice as well as the opportunity to connect with her patients and their families. Her professional interests include preventative care, anesthesia, ophthalmology, and client communication. She loves being a part of the CAC Leadership Team, as it allows her to promote a healthy and happy workplace, coach newer veterinarians and staff, maintain a high standard of care, and network within the veterinary community.

Dr. Lockhart and her husband welcomed a baby boy named Gordon in 2021, and they are excited to welcome a baby girl in September 2023. They recently lost their beloved Layla, a Great Pyrenees who Dr. Lockhart adopted while in vet school. They are waiting for the right time to add another pet to their growing family. Dr. Lockhart will forever hold a special place in her heart for Great Pyrenees and other large and giant breed dogs. She enjoys running, camping, reading, and traveling, especially to wintry destinations, and she is always seeking to check things off her bucket list.

Some of her favorite accomplishments so far have included bungee jumping in Whistler, biking across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, participating in the Polar Bear Swim in Vancouver, and ice fishing in Northern Ontario.
